The Full Story

WILLIAM E. EDWARDS
ACADEMIC COLLEGE TOURS

WEE-ACT was founded in 1986 by Ms. Angela Edwards. After returning from Shaw University, Ms. Edwards and her father realized there was a lack of knowledge in the Fairfield County region about HBCUs. After taking a poll among 50 high school juniors and seniors, they discovered that the students were familiar with one-fourth of HBCU institutions. With the help of a Stamford social service agency, Ms. Edwards was able to offer the first HBCU College Tour to over 40 high school students.

Mission

At WEE-ACT our mission is to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders by providing youth with transformative opportunities to explore Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Through guided tours, mentorship and educational support, we aim to cultivate a deeper understanding of the cultural, academic and social value of HBCUs, empowering students to envision and pursue higher education as a pathway to success.

Vision

WEE-ACT's goal is to bridge the achievement gap by providing support and resources to low-income, predominantly minority students, helping them gain access to colleges and higher learning institutions. These institutions have a strong history of welcoming and serving diverse populations, ensuring these students can thrive in academic environments that value and prioritize inclusivity. By empowering these students, WEE-ACT aims to create greater educational opportunities and foster success in higher education for underrepresented groups.
